April 7-10, 2005

Leftovers 5, Battlecats 5
The Leftovers began the 2005 Playoffs season by tying the evenly matched Battlecats in what would be warm up for the championship.  The game saw both teams blowing two goal leads to end knotted at 5 by the final whistle.

The Battlecats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period.  Jason Krumm (Andy Miller, Jake Dotray) cut the lead to 2-1 before the Battlecats added another goal.  Dave Waldock (Ryan Guritz) scored with 31 seconds remaining in the period.

The Leftovers came storming back in the 2nd period with a goal by Dotray (Brad Sorock, Krumm).  Waldock tallied his second of the game (Guritz, Jason Larson) with a power play goal.  Dotray got his second of the game (Miller) with 7:10 remaining in the 2nd.  The Battlecats scored with 7 seconds remaining in the 2nd to pull within one heading into the third period.

The only goal in the 3rd came from the stick of the Battlecats.  The Leftovers took 15 shots in the final period, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Leftovers 5, Raiders 0
The Raiders presented the Leftovers their first taste of D1 West.  Ryan Guritz (Brad Sorock, Jason Larson) opened the scoring with 11:12 remaining in the first period.

The Leftovers took a 1-0 lead into the second period.  Jason Krumm (Sorock, Andy Miller) added one at with 10:46 left in the 2nd period and Larson (Dave Waldock, Anders Larson) tallied another before the end of the second period.

Ryan Guritz owned the final period with goals at 13:21 (unassisted) and 10:10 (J. Larson, Waldock).  Jason Bleistein kicked aside 21 shots for his 3rd shut out of the season.

Leftovers 5, Wild 2
The second game against the West side began quickly in favor of the Wild.  They jumped out to a 1-0 lead 32 seconds into the first and tallied another with 3:51 remaining in the 1st period.  The Leftovers managed only 2 shots on goal.

The Leftovers brought out a different team in the second period.  Jake Dotray made up for his late entrance with a goal (Brad Sorock) early in the period.  He scored again about 8 minutes later with a short handed goal (Sorock) to tie the game.

The third period was more of the same with the Leftovers getting the game winning goal from Jason Larson (Ryan Guritz) 2:07 into the final period.  Guritz added a goal of his own (Brad Sorock, Dave Waldock) with 9:50 remaining in the period.  With just over a minute to play in the game, Jason Krumm put the final nail in the coffin with an empty net goal (Jake Dotray).  The large gathering of Leftover fans erupted.

With the win, the Leftovers would face the Battlecats for the 5th time this season.

Battlecats 3, Leftovers 2, OT
With the high-scoring affair behind them, the Leftovers and Battlecats skated to a 0-0 heading into the third period.  This championship game had all the makings of a classic.

Ryan Guritz (Jason Larson) broke the 0-0 tie with his 5th goal of the playoffs 1:05 into the 3rd period.  Two minutes and 41 seconds later, Jason Krumm (Tom Mueller, Bill Jungheim) added his 4th of the playoffs on a power play goal.

The Battlecats tied the game with just under 5 minutes remaining in the game.  As has been the case between these two teams, this one promised to go down to the wire.

Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie.  A 5 minute running time period transpired in which neither team scored.  The Battlecats managed one shot on goal, while the Leftovers offered up four.  This set the stage for a shootout, which was won by the Battlecats.  The Leftovers cinderella season came to an end.
