Sting 3, Leftovers 2

All the Leftovers had to do was win or tie their last game and they were in the playoffs.  They fell down 2-0 in the first period but came back to tie it on a Bill Jungheim goal on a two man advantage.  They were unable to hold on and fell 3-2.

After a disappointing first half of the season, the Leftovers regrouped and went on an 8-2 tear, but it was not enough.  The team is looking forward to getting back in action next winter where they hope to get back in the playoffs and make a run for the championship.

Leftovers 4, Battlecats 2

The Leftovers scored three unanswered goals to beat the Battlecats 4-2. Ryan Guritz tied the game late in the second period and Jake Dotray put the Leftovers ahead with a power play goal mid-way through the third. Jeremy Wiles added the insurance goal shortly thereafter.

The Leftovers must win their last game and hope for a Lions loss or tie. They will know of their fate before they face the Sting for the final game of the regular season.

March 26, 2006

Phantoms 2, Leftovers 0

The Leftovers diminished their chances at a playoff birth with a 2-0 loss to the Phantoms. The Leftovers have never beaten the Phantoms, the only team to claim such an honor.

Leftovers 2, Zephyrs 0

The teams skated through a 0-0 tie until Ryan Guritz (John Sweetland) scored on the power play with 3:53 remaining in the second period to break the deadlock.  The Zephrys' goalie did everything he could to keep his team in the game, but Brad Sorock (Bill Jungheim) scored with 1:53 remaining in the game and Jason Bleistein turned aside 14 shots to ensure a Leftovers victory.

February 18, 2006

February 12, 2006

Lions 8, Leftovers 1

Not much positive to say about the game other than Andy Miller tallying his first goal of the season. After that, it was all down hill and the Leftovers lose two games in a row for the second time this season and fall below .500 for the first time in their history.

January 29, 2006

Phantoms 4, Leftovers 1

The Leftovers faced off against the similarly colored Phantoms for the first time in regular season play.  Unable to get a win against them in the pre-season tournament, the Leftovers were looking to extract a bit of revenge, but fell short.

In a game close than the score indicates, the Phantoms scored first, but Ryan Guritz answered back 14 seconds later.  The game continued at a frantic pace until the Phantoms tallied a heartbreaker with 15 seconds left in the second period.

The Leftovers had their chances but couldn't put another one past the Phantoms' goalie.

The Leftovers have two weeks off until they face off against the Lions on 2/12 at Aldrich arena.  The Leftovers beat the Lions in the first game of the season 3-2.

January 22, 2006
Leftovers 3, Sting 2, OT

The Leftovers ended a two game skid with a victory over the Sting in an overtime thriller.

The Leftovers came out slow in the first period and a half, but after a brilliant hand-eye coordination goal by Anders Larson, the team stepped it up.  Jason Larson scored 33 seconds later to tie the game late in the second period.

The third period was a defensive struggle as both teams tried to put home the game winner.  A five minute overtime was necessary to settle the score.

Jeremy Wiles scored with 2:26 remaining in the overtime on a one man effort up the boards.  The goal gave the Leftovers the win and and three way tie for fourth place with 10 points.

The Leftovers will try to continue from their strong play as they face off against the Phantoms at 6:50 at West Side arena.

Battlecats 4, Leftovers 0

The Leftovers and Battlecats faced off for the fifth time in two years and the Battlecats rolled to an easy victory.

There isn't much positive news to report from this game as it was all Battlecats.  The Leftovers were out hustled and out played and it showed as they were shut out for the first time in their history.  It was also the fewest number of shots in a game (with only 1 in the second period) at 14 and the first time the team has dropped two games in a row.

The Leftovers hope to rebound in their Sunday evening matchup against the Sting.

Ice Bats 4, Leftovers 3

The Ice Bats scored just before the final buzzer to defeat the Leftovers

Uninspired play by the Leftovers resulted in a back and forth game and would have been lucky to get the tie.  Instead, the Ice Bats took advantage of a Leftovers defensive breakdown and netted the game winner just before time expired.

No scorekeeper was available for the game, so stats will be a little behind.  They will be updated when the information becomes available.

Time to Play Catch Up!

We won't talk about Chicago.  End of that story.

The Leftovers joined the AHA's pre-season tourney the weekend of September 16-18 and wound up playing 5 games in less than 48 hours.

The tourney started on Friday night, September 16 when the Leftovers faced D1 newcomers the Lakers. The Lakers were outmatched and the Leftovers didn't look back all night and won the game 9-1.

The following afternoon the Leftovers faced the similarly colored Phantoms.  The teams went back and forth, and in the end, the Phantoms came out on top 2-1 on a nice tip in front of the net.

Down but not out, the Leftovers faced off against the Blizzard.  Knowing that a win would put us into the playoff, we played hard and won 2-0. We celebrated lightly and got ready for the next game.

Sunday morning, we faced off against the Sting.  It was another hard fought game, but the Leftovers prevailed 2-1.  The Sting had several scoring chances in the final moments, but they were unable to capitalize.

The Phantoms won their playoff game in a shootout, so it was time for a rematch.  Unfortunately, the Leftovers never showed up for the Championship game and fell 2-0.

We have some work to do before the season officially beings in the end of October.  Scrimmages and practices will be posted when they become available.
