Leftovers drop a snowman on Heat
Mike Gander, Neil Hoff, and Jeremy Swanson were all sitting at one goal
for the season. Together, they formed the Uno line. Neil Hoff though this
label was kinda demeaning and scored his 2nd just one minute into the
game. Swanson got in on the fun, also potting his 2nd of the year at the
13:00 mark. Aaron Etshokin's point shot was gloved into the Heat's net
much to the delight of the opposing goalie.
The 2nd period was highlighted by some Leftovers turnovers inside the
d-zone and Brett Snaza bailing out his team.
The line formerly known as Uno opened the scoring in the 3rd with Swanson
netting his 2nd of the game. Swanson made it a 3 goal night on a pass
from Gander at 12:40. A lack luster powerplay effort gave the Heat their
1st goal of the game at 6:07 of the 3rd. Vegas Mike continued his goal
and 2pim trend by putting in a rebound at 5:05 on the PP. Derek Barness
and Scott Krenner scored in the last 2 minutes to round out the scoring.
Game Notes:
Mike Gander is still an Uno... Mike Navarre needs to find the damn net...

Leftovers take lots of penalties, tie
Lumberjax
Vegas Mike opened the scoring against his former team in the 1st period.
Derek Barsness added the game tying goal in the 3rd while Scott Krenner
put in what should have been the game winner with 3:14. But sometimes
stuff happens and the other team's point leader gets to walk in and tie
things up with 2 minutes to go.
Game Notes:
The two teams spent so much time playing nice and saying pleasant things
to each other that there was no time for OT...

Turnovers and bad bounces do in Leftovers
The Mayhem scored on their 1st shift of the game and things kinda went
down hill from there. Anthony Foster scored for the lone goal for the
Leftovers in the 1st.
Foster added a powerplay goal off of a feed from Scott Krenner early in
the 2nd. Two late 2nd period Mayhem goals had the squad down 5-2 and a
timeout was called so that the captain could do some calm motivational
talking yelling. Jeff Wedren liked what he heard and tipped in a Mike
Navarre pass to make it 5-3.
The Mayhem struck just 9 seconds into the 3rd but "Vegas" Mike
replied less than a minute later. Foster completed the hat trick at 5:03
to pull the team within one but time ran out on the Leftovers.
Game Notes:
Man I'm sure glad our C1 goalie stopped taping this game halfway through
the 2nd...

Leftovers take over 2nd place in B2 with
3rd period rally
The B2 season reconvened after a 3 week layoff against the Outlaws with
the teams tied at 11pts. The Outlaws jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a
breakaway caused by A. Larson (that's too obvoius, lets go with Anders
L.). Late in the 1st, Anthony Fosters' rebound was put in by Scott "Judge
Dredd" Krenner to tie the game at 1.
The Leftovers had over 1 minute of 5 on 3 to use early in the 2nd but
the Outlaws goalie kept the score tied at 1. "Bad" Brad Sorock
shot at 9:46 found its way to the back of the net for the 2-1 lead. 2
goals by the Outlaws in less than one minute saw the Leftovers down by
1 at the end of the 2nd.
Half-way through the 3rd, Vegas Mike declared that he was done playing
penalty free and took the game over for a couple of shifts. After a few
non-calls in the d-zone, Vegas beat the Outlaws goalie 5-hole to knot
the game at 3 with 8:44 left in the 3rd. "Coach" Aaron Etshokin's
point shot put the Leftovers up by one while Mike "I'm on pace for
2!!!" Ganders' 1st of the year sealed the deal.
Game Notes:
Brett Snaza called the game the best team effort he'd seen in 2 years...
But then again he took a stick to the neck and was run twice so who's
to say... Brent "Beans" Hanson's rainbow point shot led to Ganders
insurance goal...

Three 3rd period goals send Leftovers
past Chiefs
The Leftovers were looking to build off of a hard fought tie vs the MadDogs
and the Krenner/Barsness/Foster line got things moving just 2 minutes
into the game. First period play was dominated by the Black and Orange
but a late Chiefs tally tied the game at 2. Anthony "Still need a
nickname for the guy" Foster tipped in Brent "Beanie" Hanson's
point (that may or may not have been going on net) shot less than a minute
later to regain the 1 goal lead.
The 2nd period showed a different Leftovers team, one that wasn't interested
in back checking and liked to turn the puck over in its own end. The Chiefs
used a miscue to tie the game back up at 7:25. Brett Snaza stopped a breakaway
after someone's point shot hit a Chiefs forward in the shins. No names,
you know who you are...
Almost 20 shots found their way on net for the Leftovers in the 3rd but
the Chiefs netminder continued to confound his opponents unil the 7 minute
mark. Derek "I missed you Anthony" Barsness'sssssss pass was
directed into the net for the 3-2 lead. Vegas Mike, Swanson, and Danny
Old School put on a clinic that resulted in 2 missed open nets and 1 crossbar
before Smith finally hit pay dirt. Mark "white tiger" Cochrane's
point shot was tipped in by Scott Krenner for the 3 goal lead at 0:26.
Game Notes:
Snaza stopped 23 of 25 shots from the Chiefs... "Just" Mike
Navarre did not hold that guys stick, just so that ref knows... Vegas
Mike was asked by the same ref to not pitch-fork him off of a d-zone draw...

Leftovers earn tie with MadDogs
The shorthanded Leftovers faced off against the top B2 team and withstood
an early shelling. With top scorers Anthony Foster and Vegas Mike out
of the line up, "Coach" Aaron Etshokin's point shot found its
way past the 'Dogs goalie with a little help from Neil Hoff's screen.
Early in the 1st a poorly timed D pinch led to a Dogs 3 on 1. Brett "vegetable
medley" Snaza stopped the 1st shot but the rebound was put in from
a near impossible angle along the goal line. After a cycling clinic in
the offensive zone, Scott "B2 here I come" McGuire somehow found
the net for the 2-1 lead at 2:59. Brad "Superman" Sorock had
an chance to put the team up by 2 but missed the net despite having half
of it wide open.
The Mad Dogs tied the game at 12:45 on a goal mouth feed. The celebration
by the goal scorer would have made C1's Jim Buccellato jealous. The Leftovers
carried the play for much of the last 12 minutes and OT but were unable
to beat the Dogs keeper.
Game Notes: Snaza stopped 36 of 38 shots... Jeremy Swanson, Danny Old
School, and Brent Hanson made friends with many of the MadDogs...

Leftovers hammered by Moose 6-2
"Old School" Dan Smith scored his 1st and 2nd of the year in
what would be the only bright spots for the team.

Leftovers finally connect on PowerPlay,
win 4-3 over Venom
The first snow fall of the year turned what should have been a full bench
into 10 starters. Normally, an early powerplay would be used to stretch
the legs, work on bad passing, and general lethargy. Anthony Foster didn't
get the memo and tipped a Derek Barsness shot/pass high glove side at
14:20. The Venom evened and then took the lead at 8:47 and 1:53 of the
1st.
After a few late arrivals and some Jason "Pond Hockey Punches"
Bleistein saves, Vegas Mike Waltman caused a turnover at the Venom blueline
and then found the back of the net to the 2 all tie. The Krenner-Barsness-Foster
line put on a clinic durring a powerplay with Foster slamming home his
second of the night at 5:31.
Mike Gander rolled a pass from behind the net to "Superman"
Sorock who made it a 2 goal game at 13:42 of the 3rd. The Venom struck
back less than a minute later and killed off two late penalties(I mean
hey, we got 2 goals on the pp already...). The Leftovers were perhaps
a little too empty net happy in the last minute and Bleistein had to make
some saves to seal up the game.
Game Note:
Aaron "Head Coach" Etshokin attended the game... Bleistein made
24 saves in his 2nd call up from C1...

B2 Leftovers use 4 3rd period goals to
beat the Heat
Looking to build on their impressive game against the Lumberjax, the Krenner-Barsness-Foster
line got things rolling at 8:58 of the 1st. Foster's corner feed to Barsness
hit pay dirt for his 1st of the season. The Heat struck back :18 later
when Anders "Morale Officer" Larson screened his goalie and
a shot found it's way into the net.
The Heat went up 2-1 at 13:06 of the 2nd while the Leftovers took much
of that period off including 2 power-plays.
After a d-zone win the puck was flipped out to neutral ice and that's
where Brad "Superman" Sorock sprung to life. Sorock picked a
Heat d-man's pocket and then went backhand far side on the goalie at 13:56
of the 3rd. Scott Krenner hammered in Barsness'sss rebound :30 later for
the 3-2 lead. The Smith-Wedren-Waltman line conected on a nice passing
play with Vegas Mike finding the net for his 1st. The Heat made it a one
goal game at 6:12. Sub goalie Jason Bleistein slammed the door durring
a late Heat powerplay and Vegas Mike picked off a pass and went high glove
side for the 5-3 win.
Game Notes:
C1 Leftovers goalie Jason Bleistein made 28 saves after getting the call
up in place of Brett "make sure this stays a 10" Snaza who was
on sabbatical in the Philippines... Beans dropped the f-bomb in front
of an 8 year old in the stands....

Leftovers get 1st win of season
Scott Krenner got the team off to a 1-0 lead by depositing Anthony Foster's
rebound at 10:18 of the 1st.
Foster scored his 1st of the season on a nice feed from Derek Barsness
at 9:16 of the 2nd. The Leftovers finally converted on the PP when Jeremy
Swanson put in Brent "Beans" Hanson's pass from the point, off
the boards and around the net. Walts penalty lead to Foster's second of
the night again set up by Barsness. Mark "White Tiger" Cochrane
took a pass from Mike Navarre in the slot and beat the goalie 5 hole for
the 5-0 lead. Jeff Wedren scored his 1st of the year at 6:33 of the 3rd.
Brett "make sure this stays a 10" Snaza made 21 saves on 23
shots... Cochrane played 24 games last year without a goal in C1, he's
1 for 1 in B2... Walt renewed his friendship with the Jax #4...

B2 squad suffers power outage in 3-2 in
season opener
With 4 regulars too busy bobbing for apples and still down a roster spot
due to James Wells falling off of his garage, 11 Leftovers suited up vs
the Mayhem to kick of the season.
The team was afforded numorous powerplays in the 1st period. Not much
resulted from the man advantages and most of the scoring chances were
generated 5 on 5. The Mayhem jumped out to a 1-0 lead after someone's
(Dohhhtes!!!) pass landed in Brett "Hate" Snaza's skates and
was poked into the net by an alert Mayhem forward.
The 2nd period saw the Leftovers waste a few more powerplays...
After the Mayhem went up 2-0 early in the 3rd, the Leftovers figured they
would lull them into a false sense on security and wait until the last
5 minutes to mount a comeback. The team made it a 1 goal game at the 5
minute mark followed by Neil "don't hassle my" Hoff's tying
goal at 3:25. The Mayhem scored the go ahead goal with .44.
Game Notes:
Brett Snaza hopes everyone that wasn't there had a good time and their
Halloween costume was a hit... Gander now realizes that you should never
ask Heckel and Jeckel what they're calling you for, ever... The Leftovers
face off against their ol' pals the Lumberjerks this Friday...
October 14, 2011
The first two weeks of the season were released today. The Leftovers open the season in a 4:30 matinee on October 29 against the Mayhem at SLP E.
