Leftovers claim B2 championship with 5-3
win over Mayhem. At the start of the season, who would have thought that the upstart Leftovers would have been playing for the AHA B2 Championship game let alone in the playoffs... The team was off and running just :34 in to the game after Max "Brick Sh*thouse" Schaefer banked a pass off a Mayhem d-man and past the keeper.
With the score tied at 1, Sam "I don't need warm-ups" Schaefer cut off a break-out pass and beat the Mayhem goalie high glove for the 2-1 lead. With the score again tied, Sam went end 2 end, circled the net, fed a pass to Jeremy Swanson who then hit "Just" Mike Navarre in the low slot for a 3-2 lead.
Halfway through the 3rd, "Old School" Dan Smith connected with "Vegas" Mike for a breakaway feed to put the Leftovers up by 2. A Mayhem goal with 3:18 left made the game interesting. The Gander-Swanson-Max line put on a forechecking clinic and refused to yield the offensive blue line that resulted in Max' 2nd of the night for the 2 goal lead. The team ran out the remaining 1:37 and then celebrated like it was 1999...
Game Notes: Brett Snaza stopped 13 of 16 shots, add about 14 to that and you'd have the real total... The Dohmen-Sorock-Wedren line missed on 9 scoring chances in a 1 minute span of the 3rd... The B2 squad took just 7 penalties in the 4 playoff games. The Venom, Lumberjax, and Falcons are petitioning the AHA to move the team up on this fact alone...
